Introduction =============== There are many people that say that getting high scores is fun and difficult. Records exist; the game itself scores your personal ones. But not many people have tried for the low score. In 1 Player Mode, low scores are not easy to achieve. They demand a carefully monitored sequence of steps. While anyone can score in the 300ks, getting below 200k requires a bit of training. =========== 2. Method 1 =========== There are two methods. Method 1 is by far easier, but also much less impressive. The basic theory behind Method 1 is to lose repeatedly on the Master Hand, then beat the game with a sub-100k score. In Method 1, the lowest possible score is 73,000. This is not difficult to accomplish; lose all your points by continuing, then defeat the Hand with no awards but Very Easy Clear. =========== 3. Method 2 =========== The second Method is much more difficult. In this method, you will not continue. Not once. You just play through the game, being very careful, and then you get a low score. Easy? Well, try it and see. ------------------- A. How to score low ------------------- The basic idea is to evade getting awards as much as possible. If you don't care about your records, you can erase your file and find out exactly how many awards you got. Aim for 1 (it's the lowest possible) plus some cheap shots. ................... Standard strategies ................... Before you even start, set the game to Very Easy, preferably with 5 lives. Set the time to Infinity. This will get rid of the possibility of getting Lucky 3 or Last Second. Start out each stage with a smash attack. This will destroy your chance of getting Pacifist, Item Strike, Hawk, Item Throw, Smash-Less, and Judo Warrior. Next use a punch to eliminate Smash Mania and Single Move. Next, take some damage and pick up an item, to get rid of No Damage and No Item. With items, you'll have to be careful. Try not to use them often; if you can avoid most of them you don't have to worry about Mew Catch, Star Clear, Shooter, Booby Trap, Pokemon Finish, Item Pitcher, and Bumper Clear. In addition, don't get a lot of Hearts and Maximum Tomatoes; you don't want to get Heartthrob or Vegetarian, and be careful not to get Full Power. Make sure to wait for a bit at the beginning, so you don't get Speedster. During the battle, try to get a Cheap Shot by hitting the enemy when they're down, but don't EVER destroy their shield. If you did, you'd get Shield Breaker, which is not good. Don't take too much damage; Heavy Damage is worth a whopping 28,000 points! And pick an attack NOT to use. You don't want to end up with All Variation either. At the end, when you're getting ready to kill the opponent, try to smash them far to the right or left. That way, you can't get Star Finish, Comet Mystic, Mystic, Special Move, or Throw Down. Don't use a taunt (so you don't get Fighter Stance). And, finally, be careful not to have your damage digits the same so you don't get Jackpot. ................ Stage strategies ................ There are many different stages in the 1 Player version of the game. Some have their own unique awards. Here's how not to get them: VS LINK There is just one special award on this stage, but there is something else to be careful about: No Miss. If you beat this stage without losing a life you receive 5,000 points. Prevent this by immediately dying. The award here is the Tornado Clear. Kill Link with a tornado to get it. As before, try to smash him way off to the side, so you don't get this bonus. VS YOSHI TEAM The only award here is the Yoshi Rainbow - to kill the Yoshis in order. It's easy not to get - most of us can't get it when we try - but still be careful. Just don't send all of them up in stars. Then you'll get Trickster. Just try not to. VS FOX If the Arwing kills Fox, you get 4,000 points. Since you don't know when the Arwing is going to appear, kill Fox quickly so he doesn't get shot. BONUS 1 This is very easy. To get no points, just jump off. VS MARIO & LUIGI True Friend and Brothers Calamity are difficult to get, but worry about Good Friend. If your ally survives, you receive 8,000 points! Yuck! Let him fight the twins until he loses; then finish them off yourself. VS PIKACHU It's very pathetic - he has a tendency to kill himself and get a Pacifist - which can be in no more than five seconds! Hit him quickly so he doesn't get you points. VS GIANT DK Giant DK can be difficult, but that's why you have two allies. You'd probably need both of them, too, if you weren't very good at SSB. Let them attack DK, until one of them dies. They aren't prone to living, so you won't get DK Perfect or DK Defender. BONUS 2 Again, as in Bonus 1, just jump off the screen. Easy peasy! VS KIRBY This may seem like an unnecessary warning, but kill the Kirbies in a strange order, and smash at least one off the side. You're looking not to get Kirby Ranks or Trickster... VS SAMUS The only problem here is Acid Clear. It's only 1,500 points, which should be no problem, but if you're an ultra-purist try to avoid this fate. VS METAL MARIO Err... there are no special awards. Be happy. BONUS 3 You get points if you somehow get to the end. So don't. Oh, and avoid No Damage also. VS FIGHTING POLYGON TEAM Ah! Here is fun! I don't think there's an award for killing them in order, (has anyone done that?), but still beware Trickster. VS MASTER HAND This is the last stage. Many awards are here. Since you're playing Very Easy, you should only get the Very Easy Clear. No Miss Clear is out of the question. This should have taken you some time, so we can basically eliminate Speed Demon and Speed King. The only thing to be careful of here is Hawk. Do some kind of ground attack at the beginning of the stage, so that you don't get it. ---------------------------- B. What's my best character? ---------------------------- Seriously, there is no best character. Anyone you're very good at is perfect. The point of using a character you are very good, even on Very Easy, is that you can control the character so well you can 'orchestrate' the whole 1P mode journey. ------------ C. My record ------------ My record is 197,202 with Kirby. I could probably do lower, but I don't play much. Anyway, I encourage you to send your low records in to mzrg@verizon.net! Although, if it isn't believable I won't accept it. Make sure to tell me if you used continues! It's very important. ....................... i. What I don't believe ....................... As shown, the minimum on the Master Hand is 73,000. If you add: Original 73k 73000 20 damage for DK 200 20 damage for Link 200 20 damage for Samus 200 20 damage for Fox 200 20 damage for M+L 200 72 damage on the Yoshis 720 20 damage for Pikachu 200 ~42 damage on the Kirbies 420 ~50 damage on Metal Mario 500 ~250 damage on the Polygons 2500 300 damage on the Master Hand 3000 10 Cheap Shots -990 ---------------------------------- ~80350 So, basically, any score less than about 82000 (yes, I upped it a bit) is not believable. ......... ii. Proof ......... For any score worth less than ~150, I would like some kind of proof (photo, etc.). So, when you take a photo, make sure that your camera is digital. Also, if you think you'll be breaking records quickly, you only need to send a photo of one of the lowest, I don't need them all. I wouldn't lie to myself, so I don't need proof. In addition, if I have actualy *seen* the record, it is automatically authenticated. ............................... iii.
