Rules for New Events

Here are the rules for creating new events.

1We have the right to deny the creation of new record categories. We probably won't use this often. In general, just don't post a record category that you don't think a reasonable person would put on their website. Also, for obvious reasons, I won't post illegal records.
2Record categories must be distinct from existing record categories. One example of categories that wouldn't be distinct are "clock" and "clock: half-blindfolded" (i.e. blindfolding one eye only).
3Record categories cannot be identical to official WCA events. There's not really a point to unofficial records if there's an official WR to be had. Besides, Ron already takes good care of these events on the UWR list.

Rules for Posting a Record

Here are the rules for posting a record on one of the record lists.

1If you are trying to set a dangerous record, be careful!I'd like to see these records broken, but I wouldn't like to see YOU broken. This is just a suggestion, I'm not going to invalidate your attempt or anything if you weren't careful... Just remember that if you hurt yourself it's not my fault.
2Be honest. In general I'll trust you, but if you post a ridiculously fast record or it's been proved that you lied about cubing times in the past I'll ask to see actual proof of the record (such as a video/replay).
3Single solves should not be lucky."Lucky" means that at least one step was skipped unintentionally (such as a PLL skip or an accidental extended cross). If you deliberately used a different algorithm than normal to skip a step or inserted moves in order to get past it (working for it), or if the skipped step has a chance of 20% or more to be skipped or is a total of 3% of the moves of a solution or less, then that skip doesn't make your solve lucky. Note that easy solves where everything is placed nicely and takes very few moves to solve can still be nonlucky, if you went through every normal step of your method.
4Records must be achieved on a thoroughly and randomly scrambled puzzle. Most computer scramblers will automatically give you a number of moves that fulfill this requirement. Please don't handscramble if you're one of those people who sometimes gets the same scramble twice in a row. And, most obviously, don't let a noncuber scramble unless they do it for like three minutes.
5Average of 5 is an average of the middle 3 out of 5 consecutive solves; average of 10 is the middle 10 out of 12. Average of 100, despite the name, is typically taken to be the mean of 100 cubes. For average of 100 it doesn't really matter. Use the middle 98 out of 100 or middle 100 out of 102 if you want.
6For categories with extra rules listed, make sure to follow those extra rules.Sometimes they will explain what the event is, if you don't already know.
7Identical records are tied.Note that sometimes records may have an additional component that will rank one solve above another, for example in multiple blindfolded doing a certain number of cubes faster is a better result.
8We will not list prank records.Don't even bother to submit them. We're not dumb and we won't post clearly fake times.
9Try to keep under 15 seconds of inspection for non-BLD events. This is true even in relays, where you have 15 seconds of total inspection. It's okay if you go a little over but don't take a minute or anything. Again this is an honesty thing.
10You can start the timer while holding the cube unless the event is very short. For events over 5-10 seconds, it doesn't really matter, but for events of that range or less you should start with the cube on the table, or even better use a StackMat.
11Submit your times with as much precision as you have.No matter how long the event is, recording the time down to the hundredth of a second is preferred. If you submit a time that is rounded to the nearest second or minute (or hour!) I will assume the time is as high as possible (so a submission of 15 minutes 58.24 seconds beats a submission of 15 minutes).
12If you want to change the comments or date of a record, just resubmit the exact same record. It's the easiest way.
0We reserve the right to remove records that break the rules, even if the record came before the rule.Don't worry - if you are honest and know what you are doing you won't have any problems.

Note: These rules may change once in a while, but we always try to be fair. If you have any problem with the rules feel free to submit it in the Notes section of any submission.
